Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Everyone knows the classic Cinderella story--Cinderella is basically turned into a badly-treated servant by her stepmother and stepsisters.  When she thinks all hope is lost, a magical fairy godmother appears.  Cindy is then turned into the belle of the ball, but only until the clock strikes midnight.  After her time is up, Cinderella takes off running and leaves a shoe behind her.  This shoe is the only hint for her Prince Charming to track Cindy down.  He finds his princess and all the "nice" people live happily ever after. 

Cinder by Marissa Meyer takes elements from the classic Cinderella story, but adds twists and turns.  In this story, Linh Cinder is a well-known mechanic...and a cyborg.  After a chance meeting with  Prince Kai in the marketplace, Cinder's life changes forever.  She becomes determined to help find a cure for the dreaded plague, save the earth from undergoing a war against the Lunars, and to fulfill her own destiny. 

Cinder is the first book in the Lunar Chronicles and Meyer's debut novel.  If you're interested in twists on classical tales, you're sure to enjoy this story!  Check it out at RHS's library!
